My friends,
I’m excited to share what we’ve been building. Take a look at what comes next.
For most of my life as a journalist, I have had the extraordinary privilege of covering America up close—her triumphs and failures, her deep divisions and abiding idealism, her heartbreaks and her hopes.
Over the years, I’ve covered presidents, wars, elections, protest movements, landmark court cases—the endlessly surprising story of our country.
And even in the toughest times, I understood something as a reporter. I could see it and hear it and sense it, that old truth: We write that story. We Americans. Together.
And now, at the end of a long and difficult decade, we have a great task ahead of us.
Renewal.
It’s time to put our beloved country on a new course. And that means not simply political work, though politics is important. It’s more fundamental than that. The work of renewal is the work of citizenship in America. The work of seeing one another clearly enough to imagine once again a common future.
That is why I built Real Patriotism.
A place where we can do that work. Together.
THE MISSION
Real Patriotism: Independent journalism for the America we are still building.
Real Patriotism is an independent journalism platform built around a simple, forever-radical idea: that this country belongs to al of us, and so does the conversation about its future.
Every day, we cover the news with the depth and honesty it deserves.
We go into the field—to farms, towns, living rooms—to hear from Americans too often ignored or forgotten by the national media.
We bring you the voices of leaders who are shaping what comes next.
And through our “Home Front” and “The Next America” verticals, we make space for your voice, too—your family’s experience of these turbulent times, your ideas, your arguments.
I want this to be more than a media platform, though. I want it to be a place for people who are eager to get on with the essential work of renewing our country, and who take up the task with full hearts and open minds.
A place for real patriots, where together we can dream, discuss, and debate the big ideas on how we build the next America.
Real Patriotism: Independent journalism for the America we are still building.
